It has been a couple of very busy weeks here at Colours on Grey.
After packing and moving the retail store, the task of organising everything in the ‘mini-warehouse’ and updating the website began. It has taken quite a while to get some sort of order but I am almost there.
As I was doing research for the online shop it became clear to me that ‘art supplyretail online shops’ were very competitive on volume and prices. What eventually quashed my dreams of running a small art supply shop online was the fact that wholesalers in the art supply industry also ran retail online shops. In fact almost all of my suppliers do, – however recently they have taken to sell below recommended retails prices, and at times with big discounts.
I mean – how can you compete with that ???
I’m of course truly sorry about this and I think it is a bit unfair, – but competing against your wholesale suppliers can and will never work!
So back in the thinking box looking for a new direction which is yet to emerge ☺
In the meantime I am selling my remaining stock of notebooks, art supply and paper online at greatly reduced prices (and cheaper than any other online art supply shop), eventually turning Colours on Grey Online into a website featuring my own creations – as soon as I get back into the swing of it !
Until then I’m taking the opportunity to be creative in and around my home with a project I’ve dreamed about for some time.
The Farm House is getting a facelift with renovations well on the way and it’s all hands on deck as walls are being torn down and new ones erected, shelves are mounted and a beautiful new gate placed. I play the role of ‘Master Project Manager’ as well as ‘Master Painter of Many Ceilings and Walls’ which more than fills my days and evenings .By the end of all this I should have a spacious new light filled winter studio and office with room to store my ever growing passion for collecting art and ‘items of beauty’. How I long to see this finished result!
I’m still intending to continue the art classes from my studio as soon as the renovations are done, but at the moment The Studio acts as storage space☺
So whilst I’m renovating my way into the New Year take the opportunity to browse through the Online Shop and get inspired to start your own New Year’s project.
Be creative, think of something ( large or small ) that you’ve wanted to try, but never felt you had the time to do. A rainy day arts and crafts with the kids, sitting in your lounge chair sketching your teacup or painting a landscape with colours you’ve never used before.
Have fun, enjoy and be creative !
