Frost in the mornings is a sure sign that winter is here. At the moment we are experiencing minus 10 degrees thankfully followed by bright sunshine and plus 15 degrees for the rest of the day . It was on a day like this that my nephew turned 21, a big event which is still celebrated here in Australia. As his godmother I was to find a unique gift for this, his special day, and after much deliberation I decided to paint him a picture.
Creating a painting for a close relative is as difficult as a commission painting, – probably even more. It becomes very personal, but that is also the beauty of it. As an abstract painter I took a gamble. Abstract art is not for everyone, little own a young adult – but that’s what I do, – and I really wanted to do this.
He has already in his young life shown a keen interest in his Danish heritage so that became my inspiration, choosing two very Danish features – fjord and winter frost – as the theme of the painting.
“Frozen Fjord” – oil on canvas – painted in June 2013 – for Peter…… who fortunately loved it !
